BECTU is the Broadcasting Entertainment Communications and Theatre Union. If you work in the media and entertainment industry, then you should be a member.
BECTU is the trade union supporting UK staff and freelancers working in the media and entertainment sectors. We play an important role in representing and promoting the best interests of the industry’s workforce – in broadcasting, film, independent production, theatre, the arts, digital media and allied areas.

Bectu is a sector of the union Prospect and it is made up of six divisions:
· London Production Division (Film & TV)
· Regional Production Division (Film & TV)
· Arts and Entertainment (Theatre & Live Events)
· BBC
· Independent Broadcast
· BT & Digital
London Production Division (LPD) is the biggest division of Bectu. It is made up of 38 branches, which are mostly organised by profession, e.g. Costume & Wardrobe (this branch), Props, Camera etc
Regional Production Division (RPD) is the second biggest division of Bectu. It is made up of branches that are mostly organised geographically.
Each branch elects a committee of representatives (reps) at their AGM. The committee reps are all volunteers from the membership. You can find out more about who’s who on the LPD Costume & Wardrobe Branch Committee here.
In addition to the committee, each branch has an official who is employed by the union. If you would like to contact a Bectu official you can email lpd@bectu.org.uk.
Each division also has a committee, who discuss matters relevant to the division as a whole. Each branch in the division can elect a rep to the divisional committee, to represent the views of their particular branch. Click here to find out more about the London Production Division Committee (LPD).
Bectu also has a Sector Executive Committee (SEC) , who oversee all five divisions of Bectu. Prospect also has a National Executive Committee (NEC), who oversee all the sectors. More information can be found here.
